Carrie Robbins has spent most of her work life designing costumes on B’way & Off, here & abroad. In 2012 she received the TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for her body of work. In 2011 she became only the 2nd costume designer ever to be honored with a monograph on her designs(Amazon.com & DramaBookshop/NYC). Robbins is known for the strength & skill ofher character drawing which may have presaged her interest in character writing.

Around 2007 Robbins was grumbling to 2 actor friends about the plays she was working on and seeing.  They suggested she ‘put her money (& time) where her mouth is’ and show them what she has to say.  11 years later, 4 of Robbins’ plays have been invited into NYC Festivals, one placing as Finalist, another, Semi-Finalist. She was chosen for TACT (The-Actors-Company-Theatre, Wall St.Journal’s 2012 “Company of the Year”) for inclusion in its NewTACTics New Plays Festival.  LaMaMa & The League of Professional Theatre Women have chosen her plays for their reading series.  In 2014. SAWBONES & THE DIAMOND EATER (HERE, NYC) received 6 nominations from NY Innovative Theatre Awards, [the most noms. received by any show in 2014]. An expanded version of these 2 1-acts was just chosen Semi-Finalist by the 14th Street Y’s competition for its 2018/19 juried season (themed WAR + PEACE). One of the 2 actors who suggested Robbins sit down and try writing instead of drawing was the great actor Louie Zorich. He read her 1st two efforts, one of which was THE DIAMOND EATER.  When he send the script back, a small note fell out of it. It said "This one is exceptional!"  These 4 words made Robbins' day, and in fact the next several years!
